Right? Well, none of this is easy or short-term, but there is a lot more realism in this book than you might expect. I've been following (from a distance) the Seasteading Institute for at least six years, and they're not just talking about this -- in January 2017 they signed an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the government of French Polynesia, to do the preparatory work this year to pass legislation creating a "SeaZone" (special economic zone) in Tahiti waters where -- it is hoped -- the first seastead will be built, perhaps as soon as 2018.This really got my attention ... and I'm writing this review just after attending the "First Tahitian Seasteading Gathering", May 15-18, 2017 in Tahiti, where the international participants met with the President, Vice President, and other representatives of the French Polynesia government. As the book outlines in some detail, the engineering challenges of building floating cities have been solved -- there are a surprising number of floating buildings, bridges, even a floating airport runway in commercial operation today -- and the Seasteading Institute is employing the latest in sustainable, environmentally friendly technologies in all their designs.With rising ocean levels having a real effect today on low-lying atolls in the South Pacific, the French Polynesians are rightfully interested -- and the whole idea of seasteading is a natural one for a people who reached out across the Pacific and explored most of its islands, remarkably by 1200 AD. In short, seasteading is beginning to look like it's really going to happen, and Joe Quirk's book is THE current guide to what's happening!

great information in the book, so glad I got it. Absolutely recommend for anyone looking at building a year round greenhouse or small conservatory. We thought we knew exactly how we wanted ours and now have upgraded our plans significantly due to the good information in this book.

Everything it says it is and more. Well written, lots of references, great examples. The amount of solar mass needed is largely based on high altitude, clear skies, but enough explanation is given I should have no trouble building a passive solar greenhouse in Salem, Oregon. Altitude about 135 feet and lots of overcast days (weeks or months). Barrels, plastic or steel, are too expensive for me, $50.00 each. Gas 50 gallon hot water heaters are free and not much trouble removing the foam insulation. Extremely pleased I bought this book.

I am working with Ms. Schiller's company to design a small solar greenhouse modeled on her principles. This is a very thorough and well written book that should open up new worlds for someone accustomed to thinking that greenhouses are nothing but metal channel and clear panes of glazing. In particular the underground piping system, the GAHT system described here, is a very affordable breakthrough to create a greenhouse that will function year round. I tried to introduce these concepts to a fellow resident of my town who chose to ignore them. His greenhouse fish pond froze over this past winter. Such a thing is inconceivable if you follow these principles and guidelines.

If you are serious about building a green house this book is a MUST HAVE. I started the process of designing a green house on paper and suddenly all kinds of technical questions came into my head. I bought this book and it addressed every question I had. It also pointed out several things I did not think of. Very well written and extremely helpful.

About the Author
Brought up in Fife, William Curley's career began with an apprenticeship at Gleneagles, followed by 6 years at numerous Michelin-starred establishments, working with respected chefs including Pierre Koffman at La Tante Claire, Raymond Blanc at Le Manoir aux Quata Saisons and Marco Pierre White at The Restaurant. He then became Chef Patissier at The Savoy Hotel under Anton Edelman, as Chief Patissier leading a team of 21 pastry chefs. In 2004, he opened his first boutique in Richmond, followed by the opening of his equally successful Belgravia Boutique. After an increasing demand for his chocolate and patisserie creations, William Curley chocolate and patisserie concessions were opened in world-renowned department store Harrods in July 2011. They also create bespoke patisserie to accompany Afternoon Teas at some of London's top establishments. William has been awarded Britain's Best Chocolatier by the Academy of Chocolate four times (2007-2011) and has won numerous other awards. Most recently William became a member of the prestigious Relais Desserts, an association of the top pastry chefs across the world who come together to promote haute patisserie. Couture Chocolate, William's first book, won the Guild of Food Writers Cookery Book of the Year award in 2012.Suzue Curley completes the team with an equally impressive patisserie background. Born in Japan, Suzue was influenced and inspired by many Japanese patissiers but recognized that she needed to move to Europe to complete her training. She met William while working as a patissier at The Savoy, having previously trained at Claridge's and Le Cordon Bleu.
